What do dental assistants do?

Updated: Apr 15, 2021

Dental Assistants play a very important role in a patient's visit to the Dentist. They are flexible, quick on their feet, and help the rest of the dental office staff in a number of ways. But what exactly do they do? Dental assistants perform a wide range of daily tasks, including:

  • Taking X-Rays and impressions

  • Giving pre-op and post-op instructions

  • Providing patient care

  • Going over medical history

  • Preparing patients and the work area for treatments and procedures

  • Sterilizing instruments

  • Assisting the Dentist in treatments

Most people don't realize just how important Dental Assistants are to the flow of a dental office, but they are one of the most important assets! The dental office would not be able to function without the hard work and care of dental assistants.
